Heading into Los Angeles. The traffic aggrevated our transmission issues, and the air was hot and tangy with exhaust. Still, we came through it just fine; had a good time even.

The day before we were in the 100-degree heat of the desert, running from wildfires and pirate camping off an unpaved rancher road. Now we were at a snowmelt lake.

This big freeway interchange marks the real end of the LA sprawl, about 75 miles East of the city center.

Big fire over that hill. We learned later that it shut down Interstate 15 for a day and a half.

Joshua Tree is full of these big rock piles. Our campsite was around one of them which provided shade and climbing opportunities.
